As you may remember, in 2009, Us Weekly (and other tabloids) claimed that Angelina Jolie totally hated President Obama. The reasoning was vague, but the gist was that Angelina is more conservative than anyone realizes and she’s a chip off of the ol’ block (the ol’ block being her crazy father). I bring this up because yesterday, Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt were invited to the White House, and they accepted. They apparently met Pres. Obama in the Oval Office – you can see some long-distance photos here, shot through the Oval’s windows by photographers on the lawn. Angelina was wearing a black pencil skirt and a black turtleneck, and she looked pleased. Brad was wearing a suit and tie, and he looked hero-worship-y. Brad’s met Obama before – they discussed NOLA back in 2009. This is the first time Obama and Angelina have ever met, though. And apparently, it was a brief meeting – Obama was on his way to Chicago. Oh, here’s video! I like the guy saying, “Hey, that’s BRAD PITT!”
According to the Associated Press, Brangelina “dropped by” the White House (for real? I would think they were officially invited, right?) so that Angelina and Pres. Obama could discuss Angelina’s “work on preventing mass atrocities and combating sexual violence against women.” The night before, Angelina and Brad had done the red carpet for a screening of In the Land of Blood and Honesy at the Holocaust Museum (which, if you’ve never been to, you should really go – it’s a really comprehensive museum). While on the carpet, Angelina got a few questions about Obama and whether or not she hated him. When asked about the report that she hated the president, Angelina said, “Reported by who? By Us Weekly? You gotta read better papers!”
After Tuesday’s screening, People Magazine reports that Brangelina went out to dinner with some Washington power players, including Valerie Jarrett, one of Obama’s senior advisors. And Angelina even ate some solids! She had roast chicken, which sounds so good to me right now.
Following the Washington, D.C., premiere of her new film, In the Land of Blood and Honey, Angelina Jolie joined partner Brad Pitt for a celebratory dinner at Charlie Palmer Steak.
The couple – joined by 12 others, including President Obama’s senior advisor Valerie Jarrett – opted for Palmer’s $35.12 prix fixe Restaurant Week menu, and started with chopped salads of romaine, endive, goat cheese, bacon, cranberry and red wine vinegar. For entrées, Pitt chose the coulotte steak with sweet potato purée and braised greens, while Jolie savored the roasted chicken breast with buttered new potatoes and marjoram jus. Pitt, who was recently injured during a fall, indulged in the dark chocolate pavé with milk chocolate ice cream for dessert, while Jolie passed on the sweets.
According to an onlooker, the party of 14 stayed at the restaurant for two hours, and was “extremely pleasant and gracious to both fans and the staff.”
[From People]
I suspect that it was Valerie Jarrett who got Angelina and Brad in to meet the president, right? It was less of a “drop by” and more of an invitation. I don’t know why that’s bugging me so much – I just don’t think Angelina and Brad are so full of themselves that they think they can just “drop by” the White House unannounced. There has to security clearances and background checks and a White House staffer has to formally escort you wherever you go. Anyway, I’m sure this was only the first meeting in a long line of negotiations in which Pres. Obama will gradually hand over power to Empress Zahara.

Ugh, yes, the People Magazine President just loves him some celebrities.
Why do we give celebrities political power in this country? Doesn’t Obama have more important things to do than meet with Brangelina? You know, like worry about the crumbling shell of a country he was elected to run?
And I don’t want to hear that they were meeting about Angie’s plight against violence to women, she’s shilling a movie about violence to women and this gets her great press.
Blech.
ITAWY
ITAWY x 2
Amen!
Cray cray
Why is he craycray? Okay! I get it- he is a black president. I have seen pictures of former (white) presidents with celebrities from Mary Pickford up!
Sweet Lord. It’s not always a race thing.
Oh please ALL PRESIDENTS MEET CELEBRITIES. There are pics of FDR, Eisenhower, JFK, Nixon, Reagan, Clinton, Bush 1 & 2, with celebs it’s part of the job. Why hold him to a different standard.
Your Earth logic has no place here.
But seriously, I tend to cut conservatives a break when they whine about celebrities meeting with politicians since their frustration is understandable – celebrity endorsements do help candidates, especially with younger voters, but unfortunately for Republicans, most music/movie stars lean left. The best Republicans can usually round up (and believe me, they look far & wide) are some country/Christian rock notables, Kelsey Grammar, Dennis Miller and Chuck Norris.
I’m not a conservative, I’m a Libertarian. Celebrities have NO place in the White House at all.
And Obama is only held to a different standard because he COURTS the celebrity media on purpose. How many presidents appear on the Tonight Show? Oodles of press conferences, People magazine covers (and not just during big moments in US policy)….
It’s tacky and inappropriate. Can we act more serious and stop pandering to the lowest common denominator of drooling masses in this country.
The white house is called the people house… Also it’s not a pap that took the pictures but a white house official photographer by the name of Pable Martinez monsiviaz
Word.
Since when are the paparazzi allowed to lurk in the bushes at the White House?!
That alone makes it look staged to benefit both parties. Next we’ll see George and Cray Cray dining on the south lawn. Awards season indeed.
Since when is CBS News the Paparrazzi?????
please excuse me if I am incorrect, but I believe that one of your past Presidents WAS a celebrity.
R.Reagan? movies, right?
right.
Totally agree he should be meeting with veterans, scientists, unemployed workers etc. not a celeb shilling a pic; and No angie and brad have no special intelligence or insight on the issues of the day – and I’m not a conservative either, he should be meeting with people hurt by the recession not celebs that are indifferent to the recession.
Anyone who follows the white house past and present knows that this president has met veterans, has met school children as well as others, only celibrities get attention but part of the ceremonial function of the white house is to greet regular Americans, diplomats, and also celebrities….Google Nixon and Elvis.
Angie was accompanied by Zana from her movie, and Brad was accompanied by Trevor I can’t recall his name. He works with the MIR organization. So if this was a “drop in unannounced: they had a lot of people with them.
I love the tag line on a few sites.
Mr. and Mrs. Smith Go to Washington..
cute.. huh..
(I’m sure there will be loads of negative comments about this. It will be interesting to see how people make a big deal of it)
Zahara will rule the world
Sure, and this isn’t just part of the Oscar campaign.
Exactly, looks like another publicity stunt, especially as it was filmed. Good to see Obama has his priorities in order, no wonder the US isn’t so well.
It was filmed by the press corp waiting for the president to walk out onto the Rose Garden and leave for Chicago( the kind of shot we’ve seen if every pres once a week since the invention of TV). That’s why the reporter said ‘OMG that’s Brad Pitt ‘ because he was expecting just the POTUS.
Because Obama votes on the Oscars 🙂
Yeah they were probably comparing campaign strategies and giving each other a few tips.
As an aside yesterday I heard Ron Paul say that he wants to cut the military budget so he can give the money to the people. I call BS. If he cut the military budget that’d just allow him to cut taxes for the rich. “The people” wouldn’t see a dime.
Damn it Kaiser, you must not reveal the whole plan of the Empress world domination.
LOL 😀
you’re right lol 🙂
“Anyway, I’m sure this was only the first meeting in a long line of negotiations in which Pres. Obama will gradually hand over power to Empress Zahara.”
YES. Emperess Z (and Kaiser by association) wins all of the internet.
It was obvious an invite. I doubt his mother could just drop by. Presidents always invite celebrities. Obama isn’t the first.
I just want to say with that coat hiding her stick figure, her face looks healthy like she started eating again. Isn’t Angie involved with Refugee assistant anyway. She made a movie about the war and is working on International Women’s issues, people like that DO get to meet power brokers in Washington including the President of the United States. But I’m sure this is going to be the “leading” story on the news and someone will try to make it all controversial (please even Republicans men will fall all over themselves to have Brangelina visiting their office)
if my eyes are not playing tricks on me then Angelina’s lips looks bigger or thicker than before
I was thinking the same, at least about her upper lip. It’s the same size as the bottom one, which it didn’t used to be.
I thought that, too, when I saw these pictures.
First thing I noticed was how HUGE they look. Must take a TON of lip gloss to cover those things.
ditto
She always gets the top one plumped. It appears she had some downsizing/reshaping on one of them, a bit, in her younger years. Yes…that top lip always fluctuates so it is obvious she balances them out with some type of temporary filler. Not to bring someone else up in this post, but Beyonce been messing with her lips as well. I noticed it during her Sasha Fierce days and lately during the pregnancy (yeah i’m a believer). It was a bit more than weight gain, she was plumping them again, her choice. Wonder if she removed the implants or isn’t even going to nurse? Her choice.
True enough, she lost the “bow” in her top lip when she did it. I just realized that’s why they look a bit off.
I noticed her upper lip as well. It actually looks a little gross to me.
Sort of reminds me of Libya. If I was a rotten speller, that is…
Love that Supreme Court Justice Ruth Ginsberg came to see La Jolie movie 🙂
awesome!!
I sincerely doubt Angie is conservative, seeing her stance on gay marriage and all the work she does for development in third world countries and women’s rights.
Yes, because all conservatives are against gay marriage, don’t care to help needy countries, or care about women’s rights. *eye roll*
Good point, actually. But I’m guessing, most of them are, right? At least in politics.
@Gail judging by the views of the Republican candidates succeeding in your primaries you aren’t. *eyeroll*
Oh? The people conservatives vote for are known for supporting gay-marriage and women’s rights?
*Laughs hard*.
(which is better for your health than rolling your eyes).
I vote Republican, though I am solidly for gay marriage and also pro-choice. Those just aren’t the most important issues to me — the state of our economy and national defense are. And I think Dems drop the ball where those two things are concerned.
People love stereotyping us folks on the right. I’m used to it.
I have to say it’s strange to me that Republicans get all squirrelly when you point out the views they actively reward in the party. I’ve never met a Republican who will admit to hating gays, and minorities but over and over again they elect people who hate gays and minorities while kicking out the moderates.
Oh and George Bush did wonders for our economy didn’t he?
Uh oh, Papa Voight’s not going to like that!
I too am sure it was an invite, not a drop by.
Yes- at only 36, Angie has accomplished SO MUCH. Not only having a great family & very successful career, but honing the ability to see beyond herself and find ways to help others (no wonder Brad loves her so!). Showing the movie at the Holocaust Museum was very smart and, sadly, appropriate- until genocide stops (and it hasn’t)we MUST not pretend these things didn’t/don’t happen and should guard against situations that turn people into monsters that inflict horrors on their neighbors. Kudos to Angelina and Brad.
Yes she is (Very Impressive) and this will be a long day for her detractors who will be posting all day.
Hilarious isn’t it, this story is really getting ‘the haters’ upset lol.
We can expect more.World leaders respect her.
uh, no they don’t. I can attest that experts on political matters get frustrated when celebs do TV spots and such with them on world issues. Most celebs who weigh in on matters have a really watered down perception and aren’t able to offer insight beyond a rudimentary comprehension. What they can do is “dumb down” what’s going on for the public. Don’t get me wrong, this is appreciated, but certainly not respected. No world leader in their right mind would consider some do-gooder movie star doing PR work as their contemporary.
I concur. Love Brad and Angie.
If she says, “she’s not trying to make a political statement with her movie” why exactly is she premiering her movie in political forums? Does she realize how big of a contradiction she is?
Olivia, as usual, you take things out of context that determines their meaning.
“Not making political statement” refers to the Balkan context, where this issue is still *very* sensitive (for the lack of a better word) and the notion of blame for what happened still divides the people, especially as the conflict also has a religious aspect: Jolie is saying that her movie is not about showing that one nation or one ethnic group is to blame for what happened, i.e. she’s not going to be some American lady who comes pointing fingers and taking sides, regardless of who is believed to be the aggressor in the conflict. She hired multinational staff and made a movie to remind everyone what human beings are capable of towards each other during the war, especially when international bodies hesitate to act or act inefficiently. This horror that happened in Europe, not far from the most popular holiday destinations here.
Considering how vocal Angelina is on the issues of war and violence, it’s beyond silly to interpret her words as an unwavering declaration of planning not to show the movie to politicians. It’s *exactly* politicians who need to be reminded of what happens when they look the other way, and Angelina should do everything in her power get to them.
edit: I wrote this comment even without reading the interview that you actually provide yourself later in the thread. Jolie’s exact words are:
“It’s not a political statement for me. It is very nuanced, intentionally nuanced. It’s not black and white and I’m not choosing sides. The message is that there are these horrible things that happened in our history and we cannot forget them.”
I honestly don’t see any “big” contradiction between Jolie’s opinions here, her movie and the fact that she tries to show it to politicians
The movie is definitely a political statement, but more in the sense that it points the finger at how Europe & the U.S. didn’t intervene more swiftly and possibly prevent some of the atrocities that occurred. And it’s definitely making a statement about how women experience wars and how societies often try to bury those experiences, especially when they involve sexual violence.
Which is great, btw – being willing to make a political movie that expresses a definite point of view is admirable IMO. I think the “it’s not a political statement” was more a way to head off the “oh, she’s looking to trash the Serbs, stir up tensions, etc.” crowd that was out in full force even before the movie was filmed. The film does none of those things – it’s not about taking sides in the war – so her comments seem fair to me.
@D – agreed.
Obama’s going to be picking up his campaign soon, and these two are probably major donors. This was probably a business meeting.
that was my first thought, also
We’ll see. A lot of supporters are disappointed these days with Obama (like Damon, who’s very vocal about it). Also, I think – though it’s just my opinion of course – that if they were to donate millions to something, they’d probably build another hospital somewhere.
Wish they would build a hospital here. My local one has been running 110% over capacity for months now. Over Christmas the hospital was running at 117% – 123% over capacity. Hallways jammed with patients who have to get off their gurneys so they can be moved, to allow another patient through. Procedures need to be stopped so others can obtain access. The Tim Horton’s next to one hospital was turned into an emergency ward, because there was nowhere else to put patients. Our local politicians write letters to the paper saying “that’s okay, we can cope”
I have to stop now. I know better than to discuss politics, they just get me bothered and frustrated. Have a great day everyone.
Yeah, I started typing a long commentary but I agree, these issues are too complex to be discussed through comments on a gossip site.
You have Tim Horton’s in the US now?
Yep, works both ways. They donate; he gives them “credibility” lol.
Reminds me of that Billionaire song, “I’ll be playing basketball with the President…”
This just seals the decision I had made earlier that I would never ever ever vote for liar obama again.
Poor haters always hating lol
““Reported by who? By Us Weekly?
You gotta read better papers!”
OH snap! 🙂
Hehe, I loved that too 😀
Jolie in “POLITICO”: How Veterans are treated by Americans
http://www.politico.com/news/stories/0112/71320.html
I’m not an American and I’m curious opinion of someone who lives in U.S.
Obama has met with many celebrities – Lady Gaga included. I am disappointed that Obama has sold out to this. He is a president not a celebrity. If he doesn’t do something soon about the problems the US is having with employment, etc. the country has no money to help it’s own people never mind other countries. Not that the problems in other countries are not worthy of discussion – however if Brad and Angie pulled their heads out of their own fablously rich life style they would understand that alot of people in the USA cannot even put food on their own table, millions have no work and the school system in some states is falling apart. The US needs to help its self right now. I appreceiate that the famous and wealthy want the average Joe go give more through taxes and donations to help other countries – however many cannot even support their own families in the US. I say Brad and Angie should spend 12 months in one of the Make it right houses without help from nannies etc. and see how the real America lives. Unfortunately these meetings with all the celebrities have changed little except get both Obamas and the celebrities name in the news. The problem is that almost always weathly people taking to other wealthy people never brings about change just publicity.
please bone up on history of the past 60 or 70 years ALL PRESIDENTS MEET CELEBS. It’s part of the job.
Meeting with celebrities is not “part of the job”. Running a country, making sure that social security is working, providing employment, making sure the banking system is working – is the job. And unfortunately at the present Obama is not doing his job. Selling out to the likes of Lady Gaga and the Brange is “not part of the job” it is just a bid to get his name in the news more often for campaigning and for the Brange it is the same. Nothing will change from this meeting.
You act like Obama met with Angie for a full week in some sort of SALT conference(no pun intended). I am betting the meeting took less than an hour and if anything more important happened in that time Brangelina would have been bumped. Where were the protests when Bono lobbied GW about AIDS in Africa or when Michael Jackson met with Ronald Reagan or when Nixon met with Elvis? Oh and unlike in some of these cases there wasn’t a full photo-op conference it was basically seen through the windows by the Washington Press Corps.
Susan, let me start by saying that by no way I mean disrespect, and if I say something that appears disrespectful it’s because I’m not American, English is not my native language, and I didn’t mean it.
I don’t live in the U.S. but because of my job (I’m a translator) I take interest in what’s happening there and try to read as much as I can: I know you are struggling economically and the social inequalities are horrendous and if people are actually hungry these days in America, I believe that the politicians of the last two decades at least should answer for it somehow.
Then again, you really are one of the most affluent and democratic societies in the world. There are places in the world where children are bought and sold for prostitution, or work in factories for 10 hours a day and a carrot to produce Nike shoes and it is socially acceptable to punish women and gay people with rape for any perceived trespass. These are the countries that Jolie-Pitts are trying to bring help to.
The situation where I live in (I’m writing from Europe) isn’t of course as horrifying as the one above but, let me just say, what is seen as the so called ‘austerity measures’ in the Western societies is simply how we live here, and have lived for decades, it’s nothing new. You’ll have first-class cardiologists and surgeons driving 10 year old cars, people working 60-70 hours a week to afford school fees for their children etc.
Of course U.S. economy and social system do need serious restructuring and I agree that things are bad.
I’m saying all this to provide some perspective.
Excellent comment. Unfortunately however the US is no longer an affluent country. I also do not live in the US but know friends/family who do. The state of California is bankrupt. Last year it was paying some of its employees with IOU’s. University costs are going up so much that the average person cannot afford it. The US no longer has the highest rating from the world banks. It has cut back the benefits so that many have no health insurance and are dying because they cannot get into hospitals. The US has wealthy people (celebrites included) however so do the countries you mention. What is a concern in the US is that they are slowly heading into something that looks like the third world. Very wealthy people and then very poor. The middle class is dying. The last ten years that has been seen clearly. Also your comment about “socially acceptable to punish women and gay people with rape for any perceived trespass”, this has nothing to do with money, it has to do with religion. That is something unfortunately that is very hard to change.
@Susan the state of California is bankrupt because for the last 15 years the populace has refused to raise taxes while they also refused to cut any of their social services. Most of the damage to it’s economy came under a Republican Governor and because of it’s unique system of referendum voting the voters only have themselves to blame for their unique problems.
@ mln76 says:
WHAT?!!!!!!!!!!! ARE YOU SERIOUS? California has been controlled by democrats FOR YEARS!!!!!!!! It is strictly a democratic state and taxes are insanely high! why do you think so many businesses are leaving CA and heading to Utah and Texas???? LOWER taxes.
I hate to be a pessimist, but it probably desn’t matter what Obama does or doesn’t do. As someone else noted, the trouble headed your way is not of his making, and I’ll add that the only thing he really can do is hope to hold off the worst until after the election. For the US (and subsequently much of the rest of the world) the light at the end of the tunnel is unfortunately the headlight of an oncoming train called debt default.
@lorraine Arnold the Governator was a Republican He left office last year.
@Susan, no offense…. But if YOU don’t live in the U.S., are not from the U.S. Or pay Taxes in the U.S. Do not assume you are completely up on our Politics….
I love how these non-americans are making comments about the U.S. Green Eyes..ditto
The point that original chloe is trying to make is that while things in the US might not be GREAT, things in some places out of the US (as Angie is trying to bring to our attention) are SO MUCH WORSE. A lot of people in this thread don’t seem to comprehend this.
Thanks Lisa, for watching my back.
@deltona lakes: I’m sorry if I’m offending you by having an opinion.
Off I go.
@ mln76:
Tthat man might have had Republican listed as his political party, but he was nowhere near that.
“Wikipedia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/California_Legislature) says Except for the period from 1995 to 1996, the Assembly has been in Democratic hands since the 1970 election (even while the governor’s office has gone back and forth between Republicans and Democrats). The Senate has been in Democratic hands continuously since 1970.”
I hope you learned in school that Govenors can not and do not control the State soley.
“I say Brad and Angie should spend 12 months in one of the Make it right houses without help from nannies etc. and see how the real America lives”.
I sincerely hope you give this nugget of advice to Oprah, Lady Gaga and ALL the other wealthy celebs and non celebs who have met with Obama and other presidents before him. You gotta spread the hate around.
Totally agree with you. I just didn’t mention Oraph right now because the post was not about her. But when Lady Gaga and Oraph go to the White House it is just pathetic. What exactly do they have to say in the running of a country. Lady Gaga can barely get herself dressed. I agree that Lady Gaga makes for great entertainment – but not for the running of the country. Same for all the celebrities including the Brange.
@ Susan – you’ve got to be kidding me right with your “angie and brad should live….” please explain to me how you BELIEVE this will do anyone any good. Please enlighten me. BECAUSE SHE HAS BEEN TO WORST conditions…it has been reported that going to these devastated places takes a toll on her that she doesn’t eat because she feels guilty having what she has when she knows that there are others fighting for scraps of bread.
If you’ve forgotten, she has been an ambassador for 10 Effing years. If she got invited to the White House because the President wants to thank her for her efforts, along with the movie she made that brought to light the genoside war, then she has all the right to accept and MORE POWER to her. As though those years of her humanitarian efforts don’t count. JEEEEZ!!! She may not know everything about politics or running a country. But Bless her for taking her time to learn and know and teach herself about it. She is trying what she can. Has she ever made an attempt to govern or even said she wants to? I don’t think so, not to my knowledge!!!!!
What have you done for the US lately?
If you’ve forgotten, the US government HELPS the public – they get public aid, food stamps, health insurance etc, etc, and there’s a lot of charitable organizations here in the US that are aiding. people in the US are ungrateful because they just don’t know – that though they only get $20, 30, 40, 50 -100 food stamps per week (not sure how much it is) how worst it is out there…
What the US is experiencing is perhaps just a taste of what other countries have been experiencing in the other side of the spectrum.
She is not some wizard who can magically make a country/city/town a better place… that’s not what she’s trying to do, but helping and giving people hope that they are not forgotten, and that there is humanity in this world still. BUT she is helping, though not the whole damn country, she’s helping, though not the whole wide world, (though i doubt to you people it will never be enough anyway).
and i honestly don’t think you got Pamela’s sarcasm…
people like you….seriously!!!
Susan, excuse me if I am wrong, but I believe one of your past Presidents WAS a celebrity.
R Reagan, right? actor, right?
right.
I hate to break it you that many people are alive because of Obama’s health care reform. Rember if you had a predetermined health problem you didnt get healthcare benefits in the US. which put many americans in bankruptcy. How fast people forget that Obama inherited (2) wars and a crumbling economy in 2009.
Yeah, except I’m still trying to convince my insurance company that the flu I had two months ago wasn’t a pre-existing condition from 2010. Keep wondering where my ObamaCare went…
All we hear is how obese people in the US are, people will find means to feed their family. We have so many free handouts that if those people starving went looking they’ll get assistance. It’s people living on assistance from day one and dying on assistance that’s hurting us.
Obama will gradually hand over power to Empress Zahara.
I LOVE IT!!! LOL
Actually a reporter asked her about her politics & her conservatism the other night and she eyerolled and laughed at him and said ‘Where did you hear that? Us Weekly? You’ve gotta read better papers’
http://dailycaller.com/2012/01/10/exclusive-angelina-jolie-disappointed-in-obama-video/
I saw this video and eventhough the interviewer put her on the spot with the foreign aid question, she had a clear and intelligent answer. Regardless of what people think, she is far from being just another vacuous celebrity.
Huzzah! They are more than just average celebs! Angie does so much for the UN; Brad writes lots of big checks. Okay, so she is just more than an average celeb, but remember….
November coming quickly upon us, so don’t forget that the Professor is looking for money and endorsements from famous and glamorous people…
The video is hilarious-along with the “That’s Brad Pitt” guy, it seems like everyone is running around in circles in the Oval Office, probably to figure out the protocol of who sits wheres.
I’m gonna be ‘that guy’. Fair warning!
I can’t not believe that when Brad and Angie get this kind of powerhouse press, Jen just gets another slice of bitter in her heart. I really think that she hates Angie, hardcore, for taking her man or screwing up her life or being uncool or pick your sound byte.
Every time I see press like this that brings attention to needy folks I’m glad that Angie and Brad got together. It makes it that much more printable (than just Angie alone) and I like Brad. He’s a personable chap.
I’m glad he’s not living a superficial pretty boy pot smoking vacationing somewhere warm kind of lifestyle that he had with Jen.
I know, I know. Shame on me. But there ya go.
You know the only reason Jolie had to meet up with Obama is because Aniston met up with Biden’s wife during Breat Cancer Awareness month, don’t you?
Just wait and see, if Aniston ever has a baby, Jolie will adopt a set of twins… she just can’t seem to help herself from competing with the woman. Lol
Yee yeee … that’s why Angie has 6 children to Jen’s 3!
Get real Wendy.
How about you get a sense of humour?
LOL, this post is the biggest load of bull crap I have read on this blog, and there have been some doozies. Angie havs been going to Washington for YEARS before Aniston went there last year. So IF you want to make ridiculous statements, it will be Aniston who is copying Angie.
God, when I think I can’t possibly hear any more outrageous comments, you guys up and surprise me. LOL.
Am I the only one who doesn’t see that Wendy was JOKING…I don’t always agree with her posts but that one was pure sarcasm. Give her a break!!!
I disagree. She’ll go for triplets. /wink
*snickers*
Octotuplets, because that OctoMom b*tch is such a poseur! The fake cow, how dare she! 😉
Also, Wendy, Jen met with Biden’s WIFE.
Angie met with Pres. Obama.
Big difference…?
Yes. HUGE…
Pres. Obama doesn’t have breasts…
And one has a vice while the other would never admit to that 😉
🙂 lol!
Something that just crossed my mind: there seems to be some resentment towards the Jolie-Pitts meeting politicians or associating with people outside what seems to be an actor’s natural habitat (parties, other celebrities etc.) – as if these two were breaking some untold rule.
And it’s interesting, I mean – the U.S. had an actor president, it also had a professional body-builder turned actor become the governor of one of the biggest economies of the Western world. So it’s not like it’s something new or something the society generally doesn’t agree to (I mean, people voted for those guys). And there seems to be lot of social forgiveness for the most outrageous celebs (Charlie Sheen, hello?)
Then come these two, who don’t even express any political ambitions, they simply break away from the Hollowood circle and try to actively change some things, help others, and the uproar starts. Would it be better if they didn’t?
I dunno. I find that interesting.
Original Chloe: you sense resentment for the Jolie-Pitts because this post is about them. However if this post was about Lady Gaga meeting the president it would be the same. It really is not about them it is about hollywood trying to play in important matters that they know nothing about.
The resentment is because many of the celebrities could not even stay in school to graduate. Yet they meet with the President to “discuss issues”. Really? As I said up top Lady Gaga cannot even get dressed. She would know how to help President Obama with issues in the US and the world? She and the others are great for entertainment value – but not to help run a country. Their history’s are never good. They frequently used drugs, did or are doing stupid things and live wealthy lifestyles without conquences. For example they “preach” going green. Yet they fly all over, drive vechiles that use huge amounts of gas. They don’t want to go green – they want the common person to go green.
As you mention the governor that was a professional body-builder. Yes they voted and do they ever regret that now. He was single handly ruined that State. He was an actor not someone who knew how to run a State.
I agree that Charlie Sheen has forgivness but he is not meeting the President to help with issues and make the President aware. If he did that there would be outrage. Can you imagine the headlines with Charlie meet at the White House to discuss serious issues?
The bottom line is these celebrities know nothing about how to run a country. They are pretty and some of them can act. End of story. These two are not breaking away from the Hollywood circle. Most of hollywood has met the President. Hollywood if trying to look knowledgeable while at the same time get their name in the news (because they love to hear about themselves). Another example is Beyonce – she is buddies with the President – however when she delivers she takes a whole ward. Who cares about the common people. That is the problem. The White House is becoming all about the wealthy and what they want. What should make news is someone from the common people meeting with President Obama on how to help change the medical system. Now that would be news!
I wholeheartedly agree that the way it’s made to look (“discussing issues”), as if the they were the President’s advisors, is silly and makes me sceptical about the whole thing, for all the reasons that you’re pointing out. I don’t think, though, that the actors and singers visiting the White House actually have a say in how budgets are planned or how reforms are carried out.
I have no idea what Lady Gaga did in the White House, I’d be willing to guess that the Jolie-Pitts are simply lobbying for some charitable cause or organization.
susan – BRILLIANT
enough said
@Susan – I had to laugh at this: “The White House is becoming all about the wealthy and what they want.” Were you not around from 2000 to 2008?”
This is a great post. It’s small wonder all those stupid celebrities feel compelled to weigh in political matters like their opinion counts.
@ Susan the statement was Governor who was a body builder..ahhh well yes there was Arnold, but let’s not forget crazy Conspiracy theorist Jesse Ventura! (wrestler-fake & acting turned Govenor). Politics is filled w/ a cesspool of actors turned Politicians. Again, if you don’t live here or know all the politics.. I would advice on passing on commenting. As for celebrities & Presidents….Frank Sinatra was buddies w/ Kennedy, yes all of them. Reagan was an actor, several actors went from television series to careers in the House & in the Senate. This gas been going on long before you were even born… The difference… Now a days most celebrities that meet w/ anyone in politics is because they are working w/ organizations to help those in need whether in our own playground, in our backyard, or across the oceans. Where in the past, Sinatra, Elvis, (Peter) Lawford, Reagan’s, all mingled w/ Politicians for their own personal agendas (ex: Reagan was wanting to get into Politics, Lawford married a Kennedy, and well rumor always was ole’ Blue eyes was mob connected and by being pals w/ Kennedy it kept things smoothly…. But hey guess I’d rather celebrities meet Politicians and vice versa so they can mingle in society together w/ the right people as opposed to meeting w/ them and discussing world poverty issues that could affect the U.S’s security and standing as humanitarians. (which thanks to 2 wars ..one of which we were lied to about) makes us look bad anyway. However! I do NOT in anyway blame the military, as so many show compassion to others and try to bring joy to children in those countries..being the daughter of a veteran, niece, sister, granddaughter, aunt, etc of service members..they have to carry out orders given good or bad or face the blockade & court-martial. I always say, see a soldier in uniform in an airport, thank them…they remain silent and do and follow the orders of our Commander in Chief..however now that Iraq is winding down, so many question why were they lied to about Iraq… That wasn’t on Obama, that was Bush..nothing showed weapons there, all that did was put us in 2 wars and give Bin Laden a few more yrs that he wouldn’t have had if our attention wasn’t diverted from the true threat to our country…
Here’s another thought:
Ignorant or incompetent celebrities should have nothing to do with politics. Agreed. Then again, it’s not unheard of to raise to *really* prominent positions actual politicians who claim to see Russia from their backyard or can’t remember the names of the departments they’re planning to close etc.
So maybe it’s not the celeb factor itself but the ignorance factor, after all, that should be considered.
Totally agree with everything you’ve said; remember, Obama came in as someone different – right; he’s just like the rest.
So susan…. it’s really then the people that deserve the blame right?
Also, Sonny Bono (one of Cher’s former husbands) was a Senator, the guy who played Gopher on The Love Boat, Jesse Ventura (wrestler) was Governor of Minnesota, and then of course Clint Eastwood was Mayor of Carmel, CA. And those are just off the top of my head, I’m sure if I spent a couple minutes thinking about it I could name a few more “political celebrities”. So I agree that yes, celebrity and politics can and do mix, and have for a very long time.
…so why do you reckon Americans have in the past elected celebrities as leaders…? I’m asking genuinely…
cos I don’t know a lot of other countries that do that.
@sakyiwaa
I believe that in the US people (especially Republicans because they have overwhelmingly succumbed to the celeb-politician phenom) care more about image and media and sound bites then they do about actual policy. Which is why they have repeatedly fallen prey to the likes of Jessie Ventura and The Governator.
@Sakyiwaa
Actually a good many Bollywood actors and actresses go on to become politicians in India. They’re revered even more over there than they are here, if that’s possible.
Lol….Fred Thompson.. Politician, turned actor, turned politician….now just waiting for him to turn actor again…or maybe that was Jim acting….running for the Oval office position;) <3
I’m sorry, I just cannot take much more of her, I’m sooo sick of this b!%ch
hope she’s taken down a few notches by the HUGE failure of her film
I’m sorry but… you’re deluded. 🙂
I think we have some trolls here from Dlisted trying to stir the pot lol.
Guys- don’t feed the trolls!
😉
It doesn’t appear to be doing very well so far.
@cw This film was not made to be a blockbuster. This film was made to highlight the atrocities of what happened. I have friends that saw this movie and they said it was a very brutal and unforgiving look at what happened with that war. Just because it’s not getting people in the seats like a summer blockbuster or a romcom, you consider that a failure?
If this film succeeds in making even one person enlightened or educated about the suffering of the world, then I would consider that a success.
My family and I escaped from a third world country. I am thankful everyday, every hour, every second of my life that we were able to get out alive. Because of this, I hold a lot more value in people that are willing to show the world the ugliness and misery that does occur out there.
But go ahead and say this is a huge failure of a film. I’m glad you and I have different priorities and views.
I can take a million percent! Go Angie!
Nah, the truth is Angelina has had several flops but unlike most actresses, she gets forgiven for them. Her greatest career move was Brad Pitt. Her film got mixed reviews and was a flop, but she’s probably just happy if one person likes it, so she’s going to continue because in her mind being a great filmmaker is something she could do. Most first time filmmakers wouldn’t dare tackle a complicated subject like the Bosnian war for their first film. She thinks she’s royalty though.
can u imagine that dolt Pitt in the oval office?? LOLOL
that idiot has trouble stringing a sentence together – stumbling over himself trying to sound intelligent.
toooo funny
bet AJ told him to stand in the corner and keep his mouth shut
Celebs don’t help candidates get elected, period. They’re elitists, rich, and don’t sway people. George Clooney said as much the other night, that their campaigning for a candidate doesn’t make a difference. But he said where they do help is because of the fundraisers and money they can raise. I agree.
toooooooooooooo cute! Love her, and love that they are doing good, rather than wasting our time with “pillow baby bump madness”………. keep up the good work Angie; and keep slapping Brad so he stays on his toes.
Celebrities affect voters by increasing the amount of media coverage candidates receive and by holding fundraisers to raise money for the candidate’s campaign.
This is free press for Obama so in that sense it helps. But I do agree that the J-Ps visiting the Whitehouse isn’t going to make Tom The Republican living in Texas suddenly switch parties.
Anyway, I just saw AJ on TV last night saying she was “disappointed” with a lot of Obama’s policies so I don’t see her as necessarily “shilling” for his campaign. *shrugs*
Brad and Angelina is more than a star. She work in UNHCR and her film is intended to all Govt officials,Law maker in this country. This couple are doing a wonderful job,as far as I know. Critics is easy to do. Specially to those negative minded people. America is a great country, what do you think all Aliens are entering this country, because here low income worker are respected than any other countries in the world. Here, if your poor, the govt are there to assist them. We have homeless but govt try to house them, the only problem they don’t want help, they love their vices, freedom and they have no determination to change. Why we are declining? due to corruption, greediness of each individual who run our country. Business man who close their facilities, capitalism who withdraw their investment,etc.,etc. And I don’t think so you can solve the economy in one short year..Technology is part of it,its good for the factory owners and CEO,but losing human workers, have you notice our banks, less tellers, groceries, telecommunication, all run by machine. That’s because of modern technology. So those who have jobs, should be happy. Why keep on complaining if you can even do something for others. So,I praise this two movie star we have and the rest who help, rather than just to be a glamorous rich star in the planet. I don’t care if they hire nannies,as long as I been paid more than any professional degree holder we have here in our company.
Oval Office? Did she or he blow Obama? It’s tradition.
Hilarious comment! I’m not American but have been paying some attention to the Republican race. Ron Paul would get my vote. He comes across as the most honest and sincere.
Maybe Obama blew Brad. *…just a quickie*
If anything, I’d say that Angie took a whip and made both boys ..oh, wow, I really shouldn’t be saying these things.
This is soo cool!
…and people *do* need to read *better papers*! lol Angie!
WOW, who knew that Brad and Angie being INVITED to meet with the POTUS would cause such a meltdown with the hens? LOL.
You go Jolie-Pitts.
fragile??
I love how people who are sick of seeing the same five boring people on the cover of magazines are branded as “Jen Hens”. Christ, you psychotic Brangeloonies are pathetic. Do you guys like watch “Mr. and Mrs. Smith” on an hourly basis? Petition your local television station to quit airing Friends? Pray to the shrine of Jolie Pitt?
Maybe if that loser Maniston had gotten knocked up with Pitt’s kid he wouldn’t have succumbed to Skeletor Jolie’s forbidden fruit, and tabloids would actually be forced to report on people and stories that are interesting! We’d also be free of all the Brange/Jen stalkers out there.
Why are you so angry?
I am so sick of seeing those overexposed, wannabe do-gooder stupids with the intellectual capacity of houseplants on the cover of every tabloid magazine. Can we PLEASE impose a ban on any forthcoming story that even remotely links to Skeletor Jolie, Pitt, and Boringo Maniston? Why is it that the three most “in demand” celebrities are also the most bland, sinfully boring, vapid idiots in existence!!!
These people are movie stars. Nothing more, nothing less. Their “social work” and “design internships” are self serving PR fluff that pales in comparison to what actual human rights activists and designers do. To say nothing of the fact that all three are the WORST actors in existence!
You must not watch a lot of movies if you think those three are “the worst actors in existence”.
Many people disagree with you and find Brangelina very interesting. I agree with you on Aniston, I used to like her but have been bored for a few years now, but I find the Jolie fascinating and she always sounds intelligent to me in interviews. You want to hear someone without a brain listen to or read interviews of Jessica Alba, Britney Spears, Lohan, etc.
Plus all their charity work they do, they get a tax write-off for. Whenever a scandalous story comes out about them, they set up photoshoots of them doing charity or playing with their kids. I find it so tasteless. They aren’t drawing attention to these causes. They are drawing attention to themselves.
They are not wannabe do-gooders.
They actually do a lot of good.
See Brad’s back to his glasses… Awesome!
Wow! See Brad’s back to his glasses… Awesome!
I find it interesting that people have a problem with movie stars that actually trying to make a difference as oppose to partying, attending premieres, tanning, and talking about their weight, hair, and looks. I wish there were more celebrities like them in the 21st century. Marlon Brando, Tony bennett, who marched for civil rights.
You have rocks in your head the size of Gibraltar if you actually think all the PR social work, photo ops and political hooha isn’t just another form of tanning and preoccupation with weight, hair, and looks. It’s all about image. Talk to the people who are actually out there in the bush doing social work every day if you want to know more about people “making a difference”.
I have no issues with vapid, overpaid celebrities engaged in social work who know their place and don’t draw attention to it. But ones who take themselves THIS seriously deserve to be made fun of. We need more people like Matt Parker and Trey Stone of South Park to call Hollywood for what it is and tell it like it is.
They could sit home and count their millions, Which many celebrities do. So, yes they are making a difference with their celebrity.
Yes. There is nothing self serving whatsoever about celebrities accompanying “charitable” endeavours with blatant photo opportunism whilst styled to the nines in designer clothing. Seriously? Talk to me when Jolie grows a gut and a mustache and resides in a mud hut 24-7 or something.
What’s wrong with a celebrity being serious about something? You would complaining also if they are not and calling them fake.
I actually wouldn’t give a rat’s ass, because that movie star is doing their job- knowing their place and staying a blank canvas. Like I said, there are plenty of idiot celebrities out there who do charitable work but stay low profile and HUMBLE about it, moreover don’t profess to be experts on world conflict and war torn areas.
Look, I hate to break it to you, but being rich and beautiful and sitting in on the odd UN conference does not make someone an expert on world politics. If I want to laud people on their humanitarian efforts, I’ll tune in to Al-Jazeera. It boggles my mind why such pretty, overpaid people are treated like gods.
Deltona,
“blah” only has a problem with Angie. She did not have a problem with Sandra Bullock, Sean Penn, and all of the other actors who are now UN ambassadors to other related causes. Nope.
It is because Angie is WELL RESPECTED for activist/humantarian work. Well,. here is something to make her head explode:
Angie was recently awarded (today or yesterday) with the “Personality of the Year” by Dnevni Avaz, the very popular daily newspaper with the highest circulation in Bosnia and Herzegovina because of her humantarian work in the area AND her critically acclaimed movie “In The Land OF Blood And Honey.”
Angie is much more than an actress. Kudos to her for following her passion and making a difference. And she is worthy of praise and admiration, unlike the haters.
Next stop? Angie will receive her Stanley Kramer Award from the Producers Guild (sp?)for ITLOBAH. Morgan Freeman (“Uncle Morgan” to Brad/Angie) will present the award to Angie.
It is only January and the haters are having a MAJOR meltdown! Hahahahahahaha!!!!!!!
Well said, Josephina.
Haters of their charity work are usually those who feel guilty for not doing anything for other people, and want to justify their lack of empathy for others with the weirdest reasons.
Blah, *i mean this in a friendly way* Have Matt and Trey called out the Bermuda Triangle yet? Maybe u cud tape that episode and watch it whenever the Triads get u in a tizzy… ;-)? Anyway, the trifecta will not die as long as the interest is there… And u gotta admit that the media including the celebs have sustained the interest Wonderfully albeit somewhat annoyingly :-D? C’mon…
touche my friend, touche.
I have to wonder what it will take to get the same five people off of magazine covers. Nuclear war? Asteroids from space? Wait, no. The media will likely end up asking Renowned Meteorologist Brad Pitt to show humanity the way to salvation and survival.
I heard JA will be directing a movie, too, starring her bff CH. It will be called, “On One Hand Vodka, On The Other Hennessy.”
More fitting titles would be “Why Are We Famous?”, “A Painfully Unfunny Movie that Only Single Office Cathies Will Enjoy”. Or how about “Homely on the Range”.
LOL!
Never would have come to pass if he were still with the man.. He is such a better person now. Love it.
So sick of Brad Pitt’s smirk. He thinks he’s so cool. So sick of Angelina Jolie walking around like she’s royalty. Why doesn’t Kaiser question why HER skin always looks so shiny and waxy? If Charlize Theron shows up looking perfectly fine, she gets a post saying her face looks off. Kaiser is so biased.
Wow!!!
This blog is EXPLOSIVE!!!!!!
Just because the Brange are present to enjoy their visit in DC and further their networking with Washington DC’s elite….now we have this…uproar.
Who let the dogs(haters) out!
We’re people fed up with a stagnated economy and system that isn’t helped by a gutless wonder of a president…who’d rather kowtow to retard celebrities campaigning for Oscars than come up with solutions that deviate from being painfully diplomatic towards all sides.
I associate with a crowd that engages themselves in the fight if they have an issue with something that rubs them the wrong way.
Obviously, the way country is being run and the way celebrities indulge in life bothers you. Is there anything constructive that you can think of that could make a change? If you feel passionately about something, that should motivate you into some positive action. Are you there yet?
Or is this the extent of your “activism?”
Presidents + Celebrities=
Tacky Administration
What self-important a-holes. They nauseate me.
I wonder why she says that stuff about US weekly and then sells them pictures of herself (like she did when she was in Africa with Brad)?
You all act a bity hypocrit as if it never existed and never exist everywhere before.
Newsflash, In each country, including in Europe, celebrities, be it singers, actors and athletes have always, ALWAYS met presidents, royalties, ect..
Some have been invited for parties led by queen Elizabeth, then her son Charles.
From Marylin Monroe to Elvis, to Sinatra to Michael Jackson, to Bardot to Naomie Campbell, to Brooke Shields, to Beyonce and Jay Z, to the late Michael Jackson they all have met presidents and queens and Prince. Hell there is even a video in Youtube showing president SarkozY lurking at model Bar Raffaeli’s boobs while she was presented to him. And don’t get me started with Berlusconi !
It’s ingrained in every culture and has been the case throughout history : politics and entertainers have always been intertwined and two worlds facinated with each other. During Louis XVI, there were the ‘fou du roi’ and troups entertaining rulers. It wasn’t rare that Kings used to have as second concubines who were singers or writers.
Rita Hayworth, Gene Tierney, Grace Kelly, Clotilde Coureau, all actresses have all become princesses through marriage. Other presidents marry former beauty queens and former beauty queens have been elected president of their country in South America.
You all act like it’s a new trend, only initiated in the US and with OBAMA presidency. He is just more upfront about it and has put this thing to a new level when he invited Jay Z, Beyonce and her mum at his table.
But the honeymoon between high profile stars (singers, athletes, writers, actors) and rulers have always been there in history…Even during nazi Germany where Hitler tried to court Josephine Baker to sing for him.
Plus Jolie is part of a bureau as a member with fellow members like Colin Powell, Hillary Clinton. She isn’t just an actress, she is also a UN Goodwill ambassador which has put her during her tasks in direct contact with presidents, ambassadors where she was often the direct interlocutor, probably more than the current US president himself or when certain actors like Magda Shneider were very close to the Fuhrer entourage and met them and follow them during nationalistic parties in Nazi Germany.
Julia,
Your statements were quite refreshing.
Very well said. Bravo!!
Thank you, thank you, thank you.
Amen to you as well for pointing out the obvious to those in the dark.
Thank you Julia, for your voice of reason.
@blah , all the rubbish you are spewing are:- blah, blah, blah ! How ironic!
Well said Julia. One should not forget Carole Lombard who died in a plane crash while helping the government to sell bonds during the second world war. Haters are always unreasonable.
looks like zana marijanovic was with them, i think angie found a good friend in her. zana is a great person, very sweet and smart and a star in bosnia! great actress and a great person, i know her familiy and i met her a few times. stars in bosnia a very down to earth, no divas 😉
